Violence, Intentional Injury and Self-Harm

Suicide & self-inflicted injuries, road traffic accidents and falls accounted for nearly two-thirds of injuries in Australia in 2003 (Source: The burden of disease and injury in Australia 2003 [Australian Institute of Health and Welfare])

2,173 of the deaths that occurred in Australia during 2003-04 were the result of intentional self-harm. 215 deaths during 2003–04 involved assault by another person.
