HI Newsletter Vol. 1, Issue 2, sent 29 Aug 2003

Welcome to the second issue of the HealthInsite Newsletter, focussing
this month on resources for a healthy lifestyle.

We had a great response to our first Newsletter and we hope that you
found it interesting and useful. Sincere apologies for a couple of
glitches that some of you may have experienced. We think we've managed
to banish the gremlins and have developed a slightly different format
this month which should be easier to read. We've also added some
features that will be included every month. Let us know what you think.

Please feel free to also let us know if you have any problems or if
you have any suggestions for future editions by sending an email to

mailto:healthinsite.feedback@health.gov.au

Health and Wellbeing
------------------------------------------------------------

Besides information about conditions and diseases, HealthInsite links
you to loads of information to help you work towards a healthier lifestyle.
Feeling good contributes to our overall sense of wellbeing and a
healthy lifestyle can help us reduce the risk of some diseases and
help us to recover more quickly from others.

Through HealthInsite you'll be able to find tips on exercise and nutrition,
resources for young people, water safety, sexuality, quitting smoking
and immunisations for travelling to name just a few.

Just take a look at the topics map to see the range of information
available through HealthInsite.

How much physical activity do you do? - Take the Quiz
------------------------------------------------------------
Every day we're told how important it is to exercise regularly in
order to enjoy a healthy lifestyle - advice from the doctor, something
on TV or an advertising campaign for the latest exercise equipment,
fitness program or gym membership.

It's hard to know where to start if you haven't exercised in a while
but you might be surprised at how you can increase your fitness with
only minor changes to how you go about your daily activities. Every
little bit helps.

The Healthy Eating Club has a great quiz that will help you assess
your current level of physical activity and give you some great tips
for adding exercise to your daily life without turning it up-side
down.

Complete the quiz and make a start. Of course, it's best to check
with your doctor before you begin any exercise program. Good luck.

Your Feedback
------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to everyone who sent us feedback on the first issue.
We really appreciate your comments.

One of our users asked about resources on coeliac disease in adults.

There are a number of specific resources on coeliac disease which
you can find by typing coeliac disease into the search box. Some
of the resources relate specifically to oeliac disease in children
but many refer to the disease in adults.

Currently we don't have a specific topic page on coeliac disease.
Resources on coeliac disease are listed under the more general topic
page of Malabsorption Syndromes. This is because HealthInsite works
by gathering information from our information partner websites
and we create a specific topic page when there is enough information
available.

We'd like to increase the resources available on this topic so if
you can recommend other organisations with reliable information on
their websites please let us know and we'll contact them about becoming
an information partner.

The Malabsorption Syndromes topic page is available at:

http://www.healthinsite.gov.au/topics/Malabsorption_Syndromes

The following links will take you to coeliac disease (adult) resources
in our database.

Partner Spotlight - National Heart Foundation
------------------------------------------------------------

Every month we will include a brief overview of one of our information
partners. This month we look at one of our earliest partners - the
National Heart Foundation.

According to the National Heart Foundation, cardiovascular disease
continues to be one of the leading killers of men and women in Australia.
In fact, cardiovascular disease laims an Australian life every 10
minutes and is responsible for more than one in three deaths every
year.

The National Heart Foundation carries out life-saving work in research,
prevention and education to reduce the loss and suffering caused by
cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke and blood vessel disease).

The website gives you lots of information about your heart, heart
disease and conditions, diagnosis and treatments. It also gives you
tips on how to reduce your risk of heart disease by having a healthy
lifestyle.

The National Heart Foundation website is at:

http://www.heartfoundation.com.au/

Information about healthy lifestyle and steps to reduce your risk
of heart disease can be found at:

Hot Tip - Setting up a personal profile
------------------------------------------------------------
To gain most benefit from HealthInsite you can personalise HealthInsite
so that we can match information to your particular area of interest.

All you have to do is follow the instructions to enrol and select
a user name and password. You will be asked to nominate your area
of interest so that one of the team can create a specific search to
meet your particular needs. This may take a few days for us to set
up.

Once you're enrolled you can log on to your personal profile by clicking
on the yellow logon button at the top of the blue navigation bar on
the left of your screen. A series of buttons or links will appear
at the lower right of your screen under the heading Personal Selections.

By clicking on the 'My Interest' button an automatic search will gather
all the resources available in your nominated area of interest. You
can change your area of interest by logging on first and then clicking
on the yellow profile button at the top of the blue navigation bar
on the left of your screen. This will take you to you personal
profile screen where you can update your details including your nominated
area of interest.

Using the other buttons or links is also easy. When you are logged
on an extra 'save' button will appear at the bottom of all the HealthInsite
pages you visit. If you find a topic page or resource that is of
particular interest to you, you can click on the 'save'
button and the page will be saved to your Personal Profile and appear
under Personal Selections. By providing your email address, we can
let you know when these pages are updated.

It might sound a bit complicated but give it a try.
